[English]

Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between marital relationship quality, marital salience, and marital persistence, and the mediating role of relationship effort.
Method: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted using the structural equation modeling. The population included all married men and women in Isfahan, 300 of whom were selected by the convenience sampling. The data collection tools were: Norton's Quality Marriage Index, Halford et al.'s Relationship Effort Scale, Willoughby and Hall's Marital Paradigms Scale. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling.
Results: The results showed that marital salience is a direct positive predictor of relationship effort and marital relationship quality. Marital persistence also plays a direct positive predictor of relationship effort and relationship quality. In addition, relationship effort also directly predicted marital relationship quality. The results of the bootstrap test indicated that marital salience has a significant indirect effect on marital relationship quality through relationship effort and marital persistence.
Conclusions: The findings showed that marital salience and persistence not only directly but also through increased relationship effort improves the quality of marital relationships. Therefore, educational and counseling interventions that focus on strengthening positive beliefs about marriage, marital life, and sustainable commitment and purposeful effort in marital relationships can play an effective role in improving the quality of marital life.
