bjective: The present study was conducted with the aim of explaining, describing, and critiquing the entry "puberty (Bulugh)" in the Leiden Encyclopedia of the Quran, written by Charles Joseph Adams. This study was conducted to familiarize with the views of non-Muslims about the Quran and Islamic principles, to critique and scientifically analyze these views based on Quranic and Islamic principles, and to explain the correct view of the Quran and Islam about puberty.
Method: The present study is a theoretical study conducted with a descriptive-analytical approach. The data were collected using a library method, and the entry "puberty (Bulugh)" in the Leiden Encyclopedia of the Quran was analyzed and evaluated by citing verses of the Holy Quran, narrations, and jurisprudential sources. Also, the method of logical analysis and documentary criticism was used in the evaluation of the materials.
Results: The findings of the study showed that the author of the entry had a superficial and incomplete approach in explaining the concept of "puberty". The most important shortcomings of the entry are as follows: the lack of a comprehensive and comprehensive definition of puberty, the incomplete collection of Quranic terms related to puberty, the limitation to "Bulugh al-Ashud" and the indirect reference to "Bulugh al-Nikah" without paying attention to "Bulugh al-Hulum", the lack of a comprehensive classification of the types of puberty in the Quran, the expression of jurisprudential rulings in an ambiguous and unreferenced manner, the presentation of an inaccurate picture of Muslim jurisprudence, and the reliance on limited jurisprudential perspectives without paying attention to the opinions of different Islamic schools and sects.
Conclusions: The results of the study showed that the entry "puberty (Bulugh)" in the Leiden Encyclopedia of the Quran does not have the necessary comprehensiveness and accuracy in introducing the concept of puberty from the perspective of the Quran and Islamic jurisprudence. It also became clear that in the Holy Quran, three expressions "Bulugh al-Nikah", "Bulugh al-Hulum" and "Bulugh al-Ashud" are used to express the concept of puberty, each of which refers to a dimension of this concept, and their explanation is necessary for a correct understanding of the Quran's view on puberty.
