This research was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between the gender and state-trait anxiety with an emphasis on the role of attachment to God and ego identity status as moderators among the students of University of Qom. In this correlational research, 370 students (190 boys and 180 girls) were selected and responded to the Extended Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status (EOM-EIS-2), Attachment To God (ATG-37), and Cattle Anxiety Questionnaire (CAQ). The results showed that there is not a significant relationship between the gender and anxiety and the gender can not significantly predict the anxiety. The identity achievement, identity moratorium, and attachment to God have a relationship with the anxiety and they can significantly predict the anxiety. According to the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the interaction effect of gender and identity achievement as well as the interaction effect of gender and identity moratorium on the state anxiety was significant and on the trait anxiety was insignificant. In addition, the gender, identity, and attachment to God increased the explained variance of state-trait anxiety by a small amount which was not meaningful. Therefore, it can be said that the gender may not have a relationship with the anxiety and other variables such as the ego identity status and attachment to God may play more important role in predicting the anxiety and they could be the predictor variables of anxiety.
