The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of the religion-based communication skill education on the self-esteem and mental health among the women heading household and the research applied a quasi-experimental method and pretest-posttest design with a control group. The population included all the women heading household in the city of Parand and 60 women were selected by the multistage sampling and they were placed into the two test groups and one control group. Before and after the experimental intervention of the religion-based communication skills, the data were collected by the Goldberg's general health questionnaire and the Coopersmith's self-esteem inventory. By SPSS-10 software, the analysis of covariance demonstrated that there is a meaningful difference between the self-esteem (P≤0.001, F=49.35) and the mental health (P≤0.001, F=83.72) in the test and control groups. It is suggested to use this difference, which shows the positive effect of the religion-based communication skill education on the improvement of self-esteem and mental health among the women heading household, in the preventive and therapeutic approaches to improving the mental health of these women.
