The Relationship betweenGenderandVarious Dimensions of Neurosis, Psychosis, Extraversion and Life Satisfaction

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the relationship between gender and various dimensions of neurosis, psychosis, extraversion and life satisfaction. As many as 295 individuals (170 girls and 125 boys) from the high schools of Baharistan district were selected using randomized cluster sampling. This is a correlational study using Eysenck's personality scale. Pearson's correlation coefficient and Mann-Whitney U Test were used for analyzing data. The results revealed that there is significant difference in the average rating of neurosis, psychosis, and extroversion among female and male students. The average rating of neurosis is higher among female students whereas the average rating of psychosis and extraversion is higher among male students. No significant difference was found in the average level of life satisfaction of female and male students. Therefore, future plans and programs related to personality types should be worked out with a view to gender differences. Keywords: neurosis, psychosis, extroversion, life satisfaction, gender.
