The Effectiveness of Human Dignity Improvement Education on Reducing Self-Humiliation among Students in the University of Tabriz

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of human dignity education on reducing self-humiliation among students in the University of Tabriz, using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The research population included all postgraduate students in the University of Tabriz, 32 of whom were selected by the judgmental sampling and randomly placed in test group (16 people) and control group (16 people). The designed education package was taught to the test group in 8 two-hour sessions, and the control group did not receive education. The data were collected by a researcher-made self-humiliation questionnaire distributed in the test and control groups in a pretest-posttest manner, and analyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis of covariance. The results showed a significant decrease in the mean post-test scores regarding the feeling of self-humiliation in the test group compared to the control group. Therefore, it can be said that human dignity education has significantly reduced the feeling of self-humiliation and its components such as the feelings of unattractiveness, artlessness, unhelpfulness, and burdensomeness. According to the results, it is suggested that human dignity model education be used to reduce students' feeling of self-humiliation.
