An Investigation into the Relationship between the Level and Type of Use of Satellite Channels and Intergenerational Difference between Mothers and Girls in Adherence to Religious and Social Values

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the relationship between the level and type of use of satellite channels and intergenerational difference between mothers and girls. It was conducted with the help of structural-functional theory, cultivation theory, the transition from tradition to modernity, value transformation, and the change in socialization process. This survey study is a type of correlation and comparative research that is done with a sample of 380 people (190 mothers and 190 girls) who were selected by simple random sampling. The results showed that there is a significant difference between mothers and girls in terms of religious adherence and adherence to social values. In addition, analyzing the relationship between the level and type of use of satellite channels and intergenerational difference in mentioned variables showed that the more the level of use of satellite channels is, the more intergenerational difference is and finally, two variables of the level of use and the type of use of satellite channels explained 38% of the changes in intergenerational difference. Therefore, this study indicates that satellite programs have a negative role in both the integration among generations and the weakening of values and religious adherence.
