Abstract

Objective: Marital conflict resolution ability refers to the attitudes and skills that enable an individual to choose effective and adaptive solutions to life's problems and plays a role in marital satisfaction. Accordingly, the present study was conducted with the aim of qualitatively investigating the factors affecting conflict resolution in newly married couples.
Method: The research design was qualitative, phenomenological, using the seven-step Colaizzi’s method. Newly married individuals were selected through purposive sampling, and sampling continued until saturation was achieved. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 11 participants.
Findings: The results indicated that eleven categories—appropriate negotiation styles, seeking professional help from counselors/psychologists, restoring positive emotional systems after conflicts, coping strategies when dealing with family control, family efforts to resolve conflicts, economic issues and their resolution capabilities, non-controlling behavior, trust, encouragement, emotional well-being, and effective communication skills—along with their respective concepts, play a significant role in conflict resolution among newly married couples and in improving their relationships.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that enhancing couples’ conflict resolution abilities can increase newlyweds’ preparedness for dealing with similar crises in the future. Providing information, training, and counseling interventions aimed at strengthening conflict resolution skills can make a substantial contribution to the improvement of marital relationships among newly married couples.
